Services - Adults with an Intellectual Disabilities

Adults with disabilities are often overlooked in regards to their mental health.  This is particularly worrisome as they are a very vulnerable group.  Studies have found that prevalence rates of mental health problems are actually higher for people with an intellectual disability than for the general population.

I have a particular passion in this area, as I believe that everyone has a right to quality of life and sometimes support is needed to achieve this.  Therapy can be modified to suit an individual’s needs based on their cognitive capacity, attention span, verbal abilities and behavioural needs.  Working closely with carer’s is also often important.

I am able to work with adults who experience:

  • Autism, low functioning

  • Autism, high functioning (previously known as Asperger’s Disorder)

  • Intellectual Impairments

  • Cerebral Palsy

  • Acquired Brain Injuries

  • Speech and language disorders
